Single Mindedness... commitment...or just plain crazy

Happy Monday!

Today was my WeightWatchers weigh-in day. Loss this day was -1.6 lbs.
for a grand total of ::drum roll please::
-61.4 lbs.

So, that's what the 5 star shown in the photo is, I passed another 5 lb. mark.
The "Bravo" star is signifying the "over 60 lbs." part of the loss.

It was a good day. We are beginning a new 17 week commitment today, so this will take me into the summer.
Can I do this kind of living and eating forever? I don't know, but I do know I can do it this week. I can do it today. And I can do it this spring and summer. Sometimes that is enough.

We had a nice weekend in West Virginia. Friday's drive home was good, great weather. Sunday's return drive was also fine, in spite of a little snow initially. I drove part way home. Mom and Stan seemed OK. It was great to see everyone.

March will take Ed to California the first week, then he's here a week, then we're together in Cancun with the kids. So, we're really looking forward to Cancun.

April will be our drive across the country. Any suggestions on what we should try to see this time?
We're thinking we'd like to see Pike's Peak...or maybe Old Faithful. Weather should be pretty nice in April. If we went south, I would like to see the Petrified Forest in Arizona and the East end of the Grand Canyon, which my Uncle Ed had taken cool photos of. So much to see, so little time. Utah has a lot of canyon country I haven't seen yet.

I need a small earthquake in my life

Today is a day of celebration for me.

At the WW weigh-in, I managed to lose .6 of a pound! This is good!

This means I'm still moving forward. It has been tough this last couple of months, and weight loss has been slow, in spite of my increased activity levels.

Total loss to day is actually 59.8 !!

Yes, just .2 lbs shy of my 60 lb. goal. It funny we are so granular about tracking the losses. I have remember in 1976, I went to Diet Workshop in Clarksburg, and lost about 80 lbs. (Actually reached a terrific goal weight!) We tracked by the nearest quarter pound. Now WW has digital scales. Tracking is a tenth of a pound. That was the first significant weight loss since the 8th grade, at which time I lost about 25 pounds, mostly in a modern dance class I was taking. I've never been good at keeping weight off though. I think it will be better for me now though. I'm more focused on health issues, less focused on looks. Age has its benefits, I guess.

After Amanda was born, I lost a lot of weight by walking around Maple Lake - twice daily pushing the stroller. I was back to my goal weight after her birth, until I became pregnant for Joey, about 2 years later.

Well, anyway, this is an interesting journey. I feel terrific and that is the name of the game. My boss gave me a near perfect performance appraisal and a cash bonus. She says my job performance is through the roof, my self-esteem is visibly improved, my outgoing nature is showing in my daily interactions.

Ed and I are preparing for his move to N.Calif.
We're driving across country in April (together) to move the Chrysler there for him. At this point, he will secure housing for himself. We anticipate leasing a small apartment or studio near his work.
I will continue to live in our condo.
I will have no car. I'm worried about that, but with the move, I do not want to incur car payments again by purchasing another vehicle. I live close enough to walk to a grocery store. I will be completely dependent on public transportation or taxis. Or Zip cars...
I will find doctors appointments challenging, shopping challenging. Going out to eat challenging. OK, we'll see how this works. I'm flexible, capable, right?
I won't be able to go to Brookside Gardens for walking, as I need to drive there. It is probably at least 7 miles from my condo. Necessary losses.
No more trips to WV I guess. This will be interesting.

Like I said, this life is an interesting journey.

Mexico is about 23 days away! Thank goodness for things to look forward to.

'O Winter Where is Thy Sting?

It was a practically balmy 40 degrees on my walk to Metro this AM. That is a far cry from the 2 degree walk of last week. If I were looking for something to be grateful for, that would do it.

Ed's in Northern California. Yay for him, boo for me.

Weight Watchers yesterday sucked. After what I thought was a good week, I actually gained a lb.
Shoot.

We are starting the new 17 week commitment, so there wasn't really a meeting yesterday, just a "self" weigh in and then new people sign up. I wrote my 186 dollar check last week and turned it in. Although this particular week was a disappointment, overall I'm feeling so much better and have lost almost 60 lbs. total. Even if I cannot manage to lose another ounce, I'm way better off at this weight. But I think this is just a blip on my radar, I'm still OK.
I spent 45 minutes on the Elliptical last night, followed by the strength training circuit. I ate moderately and very healthy yesterday, so I'm off to a good week. I must not lose sight of the bigger picture, that really I'm in a much better place physically.
Sustainability. That's the scary thing.

I could sure use a good dose of sunshine, that would be helpful.

Happy Groundhog Day 2009

Looks like Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today, so we're supposedly in for 6 more weeks of winter. Pooh. I seriously don't like winter and I don't like my windowless, subterranean office. Double Pooh.

Looking for the optimistic side - I have lost -3 lbs. in today's weigh in at Weight Watchers! Yay!! Total since June is now 59.2 lbs. lost. Yay!! I feel great, like my old self. I'm setting a goal of another 10 lbs. for the Cancun trip. That is pretty optimistic, but I'll give it a go anyway!

42 days to Cancun!

It was getting warm at lunch time and I ate outside, but by 4:00 when I left work today, it was getting much, much colder again. They are saying our area will get about an inch of snow tonight.
