Winter has arrived with a vengeance for us here in the nation's capitol. Valentines Day was a two hour delay for Federal Employees, with unscheduled leave allowed. H went to work, but I opted for the 8 hours of leave today. I still ended up checking in via email and answering a few items. Guess I should arrange to work from home in these emergency cases. I'm not sure I want "flex-i-place" as I don't want work and home becoming synonymous. It is really difficult enough to balance a home life and a work life. However, I know it would be nice on days such as this one.
Care giving for my elderly Mom still continues. She seems unhappy, but not specific. I can't see what I could do from here to help her. I sent her a funny valentine, which she seemed to appreciate. (With photos of the grandkids.) I'll be there in a week for 4 days and we'll look at her financial picture and see what we can do to help with that. We'll look at her leaking basement and see what we might be able to do with that as well. They now have a steady stream through their basement. Without my Dad, the home they lived in all these years is going to pot. Yet, without actually living there (and having a large pot full of money) we can only do so much to maintain the house. My sister & her H have moved in, but with her H's health problems, she is quite limited also. It is a very difficult situation. I can see that aging parents are difficult for most people I know. My sis and my niece are managing to get Mom to the Dr. and back home for her weekly coumadin check...and to the hairdresser for her weekly visit. They are doing OK I believe. But, at the same time, I realize it is a very troubled existence. Wish I could do more.
We've been watching the NBC evening news, with the Care Givers reports about Brian William's father and Tim Russert's father, and now Dr. Nancy Snyderman's parents. Its pretty good, but I would love a more indepth show.
Well, I need to go for now.

February 2007
Hi,
Well, this has been a time of increasingly colder weather and a time of accepting growing older I guess. I had my yearly physical this week. Same old song, gheeze, you must lose weight. My ophthalmologist wants me back in 6 months for more exams. getting old really sucks, but it beats the alternative.
Work is going OK. (Can't believe I said that!) We're into budget reviews, it can be difficult, but the boss is good. I am OK.
Happy Valentine's Day,
Love,
B
